Speaking

The basics about me

  • 9+ years experience in public speaking, both on behalf of The Association of Illustrators and independently

  • Can drive to the location (public transport preferred for long distances, travel to be covered by client)

  • Committed to creating an inclusive, relaxed, and inspiring environment for my audiences

  • I occasionally tell pretty good jokes

The basics about my talks

  • Talks often involve quick drawing exercises and interactive elements

  • Info packs and/or additional exercises provided at the end (either in print or PDF form)

  • Basic materials provided (pens, paper, etc)

  • People have laughed at my jokes before... it was great.

“What subjects do you cover?”

I focus on creative subjects, from the initial stages of using a sketchbook, all the way up to how to make a sustainable living from your creative practice.

My specialism is - of course - illustration, but much of what I speak about is transferable across nearly all creative fields.

Nearly all subject areas are adaptable to a wide range of age groups and skill levels. Please consider the age of your audience and what would be most relevant to them.

This list is not exhaustive, please do get in touch if you want a specific theme or area covered that isn’t listed...

  • Idea generation

  • Character design

  • Getting comfortable with ‘bad’ drawings

  • Imposter Syndrome and fighting back against it

  • Mental health in the creative industries

  • Business miniclass (foundation knowledge for an early creative career)

  • Business masterclass (from website building to copyright law)

  • Portfolio reviews (one-on-one or max groups of 6 at any one time)

  • My own personal career and educational path

  • Storyboarding and working with narratives

  • Preparing for university

What other’s have said…

“Charli Vince came to talk to our final year students, with the AOI, on our BA (Hons) Illustration course at Norwich University of the Arts. She was generous with her knowledge, time, and shared experiences regarding practise, 'start ups', and business knowledge. Her student focussed approach allowed further engagement after the talk, where students felt comfortable to approach Charli for individual advice, outside of the context of the actual lecture. This was excellent to see - we'll be asking Charli back!”

“Charli always jam-packs her talks with useful, practical and most importantly replicable advice. She really encourages others to be kind to themselves when they're creating and gives them tools and resources to help them further their work/careers.

When working with students she understands where they are at with their work and adapts her talk content to fit them appropriately. I cannot recommend her enough, she is a brilliant speaker and a positive role model for any artistic young people.”
